Home Security

Good morning Members

We have received several email from concerned residents and our friends at Neighbourhood Watch about some unwanted activity in Twin Waters.  I have reproduced their stories below.  Please take extra precautions to ensure your home is secure at all times of the day and night.

  • We had at least two people up to our back door last night whilst we were watching State of Origin. I did hear a noise but thought nothing of it until we saw footprints today. From those, it appears there may have been four people.
  • On 3rd July a resident posted on Twin Waters Community Facebook page video of people checking out property in Quay Court and someone responded to that that her daughter’s car had been broken into in Brushbox Circuit, though nothing was taken.
  • On June 24th, residents in Lake View Drive had security vision  of some kids who were sneaking up to their door.
  • In response to the article in July’s newsletter:
The female might be someone I noticed a month ago … in al lollypink tracksuit. It looked oddly baggy. So she had same hair and was blonde. I came back from walking the dog and was shorter than usual. She I could see searching for the front door key in an empty round white tub I keep garden tools in … for a little while the month before I put the key there for a couple staying with me while they waited to take possession of their next home … having sold in Twin Waters the month before that. So I walked fast back as saw the women from 200 metres as I returned. She disappeared despite my looking at all vantage points. I reckon she has the option to take off what she had on as it was like it was over other clothes … so have another look. I wasn’t sure … so I just let the people know in my street Oyster Court. It’s pretty gutsy given it’s quite exposed at my front door.

NBN Scam – Contributed by Malcolm Smith

As a Telstra customer and TWRA member, I recently contacted Telstra to arrange an NBN upgrade.
An appointment was made for later this month for a NBN representative to call and arrange the fire cabling to be changed from fire to the node to fibre to the premises etc
Earlier this week an apparent representative of NBN phoned me on my mobile to say the connection would occur at 11.30 a.m. today and would I be home. I advised that would be fine.
At 11.30 a.m. today Thursday 13/7/23 an apparent representative of NBN again phoned me and discussed the connection occurring this morning, asking me to check my upload and down load speed and spoke of the speed the NBN can provide.
The representative also advised that his team were in Menzies Drive (which by co-incidence is about 1 km from my home).
He also asked as to the best way to get to my home. (I did not provide my address). The caller then directed me to a web site known as SupRemo which when launched would allow him remote control access to my computer.
He advised that he needed to do this so as to assist with the upgrade and check on the internet connection and my modem. He phoned me on 03-9005-6762 and his Manager who I spoke to was on 03-9124-2680. I indicated my concerns, which they tried to appease, however I decided to disconnect the call.
I then phoned Telstra who spoke to their NBN representative who advised that it was a SCAM.
I note that the NBN advise that they would never ask any of their customers to allow remote access.
I was lucky not to have been scammed.
Reflecting on the information the alleged representatives knew of my mobile phone number, the fact that I had an NBN appointment in the future and they enquired of my location in relation to Menzies Drive, this makes the whole scam more sinister as to how did they come by this information.
Please take note of this scam, share it with you friends and never allow anyone to access your computer remotely.
